Aegar - Mark’s Character {#Aegar}
Alternate image:
Background
He is a dragon born and noble dragon born
He comes from a family of chromatic blue dragons, which typically are not very nice.
So basically, he’s a six foot six like 275 pound
Humanoid with the face and scales of a dragon.
You see him in like full plate mail, or at least chain mail. At this point, but he is armored like a warrior. He’s got a big flail on his side.
Blue scales yellow eyes and weirdly calm demeanor and
Normally blue dragons are aggressive and nasty. There was none of that about him.
He was raised in the aristocracy. He was bred to be sort of an aristocratic general or officer. And so he’s used to command.
He was a soldier.
But gave up that life through a series of events in his life.
So like he lives pretty squalid lifestyle like he’s
Gives us money to the poor and he helps out where you can
Member of House Thanax, nearing the top of the line of succession
Compassion doesn’t mean an unwillingness to fight. He is willing to fight for those that cannot fight for themselves.
He’s got a BIG problem with systems taking advantage of those that either cannot fight back or that have been told that their suffering is actually wonderful and they should be happy about it. Aristocracy oppressing workers, religion oppressing worshippers, basically anyone trying to oppress the proletariat. He literally is a Social Justice Warrior.
Another version of his background:
- Homeboy was born to aristocracy and raised to be a military officer.
- Did some pretty terrible shit to people through his time in the military with no thought of how impactful war was.
- Elvish priest was messing with his troops making them realize how oppressed they were.
- Arrested priest and tortured him, but also talked to him.
- After months of this, he began learning from the priest that systemic oppression is wrong.
- Was forced to execute priest
- Ran away and gave up his family (very big no no for dragonborns)
Character Sheet Character History
Once a noble from the powerful house of Thanax, Aegar was bred from the aristocracy to be a warrior and officer in the clan’s army. In his early years he helped to conquer and subdue some of the surrounding areas of Tymanther and enjoyed his power and control over his subjects. However, after a series of inept leaders, Aegar witnessed the disastrous results on the surrounding areas. He htought nothing of hunger as his table was always full and assumed that those that could not eat refused to work. When his own troops worried about food, he thought them lazy. It wasn’t until a priest of Ilmater moved about with his troops to stay with beleaguered subjects that Aegar began to question. This elvish priest gained traction within his troops as they also were more peasants than knights. The priest taught the ways of class warfare and how peasants were forced to suffer at the hands of the aristocracy. This incensed Aegar so that he had the elf captured and personally dealt out punishment. Night after night he would beat the priest and night after night the priest would take the beating, yet never seemed to break. After weeks, Aegar finally asked the question: why? And so his education began. He learned about how his clan exploited the workers and enslaved those around them. How families were torn apart and how close his subjects were to the edge of despair. He learned about how Ilmater was with those families and helped them bear their pain. How he, the elf, showed the people where their torment originated and how it could be ended. His education was long, but during that 3 month campaign, every day Aegar would subjugate the masses through violence, and every night he would confront the priest and learn about the ripples of his actions. It became torturous for him and yet what could he do? He could not let down his clan. He was gaining popularity and acclaim for his family through the success of the campaign. When he was called home, news of his victories and the capture of the priest of Ilmater made Aegar a local hero. He was given the privelege to execute the priest himself. The night before the execution, he went to the priest to try to have him escape. The priest refused to leave saying that his suffering was his due. Aegar wept in the priest’s lap and the priest absolved him, telling him that this suffering was his to bear from his actions. He had a choice: to continue to reap the benefits of suffering, knowing that he was the cause, or to suffer by breaking away from his role he was meant to play and to devote his life to ending the suffering of people.
In the morning, he took the head from the priest’s shoulders.
That night he left the banquet that was held in his honor, tore off his colors, and pledged never to lift another blade. Now, wherever he goes, he tries to ease the suffering of those oppressed.
More History
Here’s some background stuff that might come in handy. Emphasis on religion, and maybe his lack of a surname and piercings.

The Honourable Aegar of house Thanax. His mother is the Viscountess of house Thanax. Aegar is known as The sword of Thanax, Forest Scorcher. He is 3rd of 4 children. An older brother and sister, and a younger brother. The oldest brother had no time for him as he had duties to attend to. He was a stickler for family duty and expected Aegar to follow suit. The sister He was closest to in age and had battle experience with. They both took up military service. She is the Shield of Thanax and together they won many battles. His younger brother, 10 years age difference looked up to him but really only knew of his battle victories. THey never spent much time together.
He is called Forest scorcher because in a battle with the wood elves, he won a decisive victory by setting fire to the forest. His sister and he then crushed the forces that were fleeing the flames. This was also the battle that he met and captured Devindril, the priest of Ilmater who later converted Aegar and who Aegar executed when they returned home.
A normal morning
- I’m right now I’m hanging out. You know I’m I’m seeing what I can be helping with around around that temple area.
- a normal day would be me getting up eating, finding some food either like porridge or something, something simple.
- Going about town and seeing where I can help those that were in need.
- So it might be delivering food
- It might be just listening and speaking with people and giving some advice.
- It might just be staying out of the way, because you know people are a little hesitant to be around dragon born sometimes.
- He doesn’t stay in in one place for too long. So maybe I’ve been here (in Phlan) a week.
- This particular Tuesday. He just finished making a drop off of some breakfast to an elderly elf named Sabrina. Who appreciated his stuff.
- He’s seen her a couple times before, but generally drops food, has a pleasant conversation, and takes off.
- He has a friendly relationship with her, but mostly the old person wants to keep talking and however noble of a person you are. You can only handle so much of an ancient person’s talking.
Relationships
Soldiers under prior command
- The soldiers that Aegar commanded would feel very betrayed if they knew he was alive.
House Thanax
- House Thanax probably knows that he is alive and out there somewhere but
- might have concocted a story that he died in order to save face and not have to explain that he is some piddly-ass priest or something.
- They might not be happy if he resurfaces, or they might be making sure that he never does resurface.
- I’ve been playing around with family members that he might have been close to and what not but I feel like that’s a little worn in terms of plotline. Still, he was a noble and so he probably had a social circle he traveled around with. Probably had a big-ish family and a line of succession. I wouldn’t put him at next in line, but he was up there for sure. His absence would have been noted.
Elvin priest of Ilmater
- Set him on the path toward being a Redemption Paladin
