In this session, our party rested, returned to the cave, and made a break for the dragon eggs…

Rest

• After leaving the cave, the party found the nearest hidey-hole and rested.
• Zoyana tossed and turned throughout the night, but awoke fully rested.
• Pliny had dreams of lounging on a floating pillow in a palace while eating grapes and drinking sweet wine.
• Aegar had a more foreboding vision:
  • Aegar dreamed of lightening
  • A tower surrounded by a hedge maze
  • It was dark, and 10 eyes looked out from the dark.
  • One pair of eyes, the pair right in front of him, closed.
  • A moment later, he felt the current as his scales stood up like they were hairs.
  • And then he felt a bolt of lightning strike through him. He’s resistant to lightening. It didn’t matter. Through every nerve, through every bone, his entire body was engulfed in energy in a flash of white… and turned to dust.
  • He woke up. Sweating. And realized he was with his friends and everything was fine.
  • He stepped 20 or 30 feet away from the group and took some time to meditate and center himself. Ultimately, he was able to lay back down and finish his night’s rest.

Planning

• The next morning, party discussed their situation and plans.
• Aegar relayed what his steed had seen while they were in the cave: a bald man, wearing red robes, left the camp at a gallop on one of the hunters’ horses.
• The red wizard having escaped, Zoyana felt their anonymity was blown, and they had nothing to lose by returning to break the last two eggs.
• Pliny was ready for round two and feeling confident: get the eggs and get out, like a brilliant brunch.
• Aegar handed off oil and acid vials to the others for use as needed.

Preparations

• The party was on high alert as they returned to the camp and the cave. They saw nothing suspicious up to the cave.
• When the party returned to the cave mouth, it was clear that the cultists had been hard at work. The entrance was barricaded on one side by a short wall with spears poking out, and a pile of rubbish on the other.
• Fang, invisible, flew into the cave entrance to scout. He spied 4 cultists with two drakes standing guard.
• Zoyana cast Locate Object and sensed the location of black dragon eggs to the East Southeast. She was thinking the eggs were either in Frulam’s chambers or back in the room they originally found them.

Attack

• The party stealthed as close as they could.
• Pliny and Aegar tossed vials of oil on the barricade, and Zoyana lights it on fire with Produce Flame
• Zoyana Thorn Whipped one of the cultists and pulled him into the flames. He screamed in agony, then went silent as the entrance to the cave filled with the horrible stench of burning hair and flesh.
• One of the cultists turned and ran, yelling “Intruders! Attack! Attack!”
• Pliny struck a drake with a crossbow bolt.
• Fang blinded two of the cultists with Color Spray
• The blue guard drake scurried over between Zoyana and Pliny
• A cultist shot a crossbow bolt up into the sky
• Aegar steps up and tags the blue guard drake with his warhammer, then cast Compelled Duel on the blue guard drake
• Zoyana thorn whipped another cultist into the fire, who started screaming in pain.
• Two cultists ran into view from deep in the cave. One tagged Pliny with a crossbow bolt, and the other sent a bolt wide.
• Pliny ran toward the pile of rubbish, dodging the drake’s tail, returned fire with his crossbow, and sent his Unseen Servant Zoyana’s Daddy to start banging on the wall with a crowbar to create a distraction.
• The green guard drake charged Pliny, biting and whipping with its tail.
• Fang grabbed oil from Zoyana, and added dropped it on the head of the flaming cultist. The added fire ended the cultist’s life.
• The blue guard drake bit and pounded Aegar’s plate to no avail.
• The party heard a cultist yell back into the cave “Frulam get out here! Where the hell are you?!”, who then ran into view and struck Zoyana with a crossbow bolt.
• Aegar tagged the blue drake with his warhammer, and then banged off its scales with his second swipe.
• Zoyana Thorn Whipped the green guard drake and pulled it into Fang’s oil fire. The drake hissed out a horrible scream. And then Zoyana cast Healing Word on Pliny.
• A cultist caught Zoyana in the side with a crossbow bolt, while two other cultists zinged crossbow bolts over her head
• Pliny cast Hypnotic Pattern, hypnotizing the green guard drake and 3 of the 4 cultists, and then took a swig of Elven Battle Spirit
• The green guard drake screeched and screamed again as it burned more from the oil fire.
• Fang breathed his breath weapon on the green guard drake, and then hid in the corner
• The blue guard drake took a bite out of Aegar
• The one awake cultist lept toward Pliny, but swung wide with his scimitar
• The dark haired lady Frulam appeared from the shadows, flicked her wrist, and a Fire Giant appeared in the space next to Zoyana and stepping over the green guard drake. And then a flying spectal halberd appeared next to Pliny, swinging over his head.
• Aegar, hoping the fire giant was an illusion, swung at the blue guard drake, but with the distraction did only a little damage.
• Zoyana cast Dispel Magic on the Fire Giant, which caused it to disappear (“Gods damnit!” was heard echoing from the mouth of the black-haired lady), and then she turned into a Cave Bear.
• The blind cultist shot the Zoyana cave bear with a crossbow bolt.
• Pliny Thunder Waved the blind cultist and Frulam, shaking them though not pushing either.
• Fang cast Suggestion on the blue guard drake (breaking Compelled Duel), and told it to go back to bed. It turned to run, and Aegar struck it with an attack of opportunity, striking it in the back and flattening the drake. Aegar thanked Fang, who was confused: “I told him to go to bed. I don’t know what happened…”
• Pliny got stabbed in the back by the cultist at his side
• Frulam swore a bit more, cast Spirit Guardians and surrounded herself with a bunch of slithering and jumping black dragons, and marched up next to Pliny, and then attacked (but missed) Pliny with her spiritual glave.
• Aegar charged Frulam, taking damage from the Spirit Guardians, and then bashed her twice with his warhammer.
• Zoyana the Cave Bear took damamge from the _Spirit Guardians, jumped over the barricade, impaling herself on the spears, and then pushed on past the cultists, dodging a swing from the blind cultist.
• The blind guy went running after the cave bear, taking a small slice out of the giant hide.
• Pliny took damage from the Spirit Guardians and Thunderstepped far into the cave, rocking the green guard drake and Aegar, shaking Frulam, and downing the cultist. He then ran through the door to the south and down.
• The green guard drake missed Aegar wildly with it’s bite, then hit the center of Aegar’s breast plate sending a gonging sound throughout the cave but doing no damage.
• Fang failed to Suggest that Frulam lay down her arms.
• Frulam tried striking Aegar with the glaive in her hands and the spiritual glaive, but his plate deflected the physical blows and the spiritual one did little damage. She grimaced and pointed at a cultist and yelled “Run! Go get them!”
• Aegar took damage from the Spirit Guardians, and then responded in kind, bashing her twice with his warhammer, causing her Spirit Guardians to gail.
• Zoyana turned, ripped the cultist’s head off, and then threw it back toward Frulam. She roared, and then turned and followed Pliny.
• Pliny burst into the cultists’ barracks and entered the tunnel toward
• The green guard drake, finally awakened, bit a small chunk out of Aegar’s leg.
• Frulam, quite obviously pissed, cast Hold Person on Aegar, who shrugged off the spell. She then swung her spiritual glaive wildly at Aegar, and then turned to run. Aegar missed on his try to hit her.
• Aegar jumped to follow, dodging the bite of the green guard drake, then swung at her. He connected, but got his feet caught on the dead cultist at his feet and did little damage.
• The drake followed Aegar, but was frustrated by the plate mail.
• Fang flew closer and cast Healing Word on Aegar
• Frulam flew her spiritual glaive closer, but missed Aegar. And then unsuccessfully cast Hold Person on Aegar, before turning and running again.
• Aegar ran after her again, this time getting bitten by the green guard drake, but still reaching her in time. With a wide swing and the umph of a Smite, he exploded her head as her body collapsed.
• Aegar then turned, fought off the drake, and then allowed the hypnotized cultists to die for their cause.
• The session ended with Pliny and Zoyana approaching Frulam’s chambers and Aegar planning to loot the bodies.
