Meeting Aegar
Wylder and Aegar met in the town of Telflamm about 6 weeks prior to meeting on Phlan. Aegar, trying to make his way to the Sword Coast for reasons of his own was interested in booking passage on a ship to cross the Sea of Fallen Stars and was using his noble background to establish contacts in order to do so. After a week of formal introductions and some noble gatherings, he was able to secure a meeting with Lord and Lady Beauxtine, who worked with the Merchant’s Council. After a successful first meeting where Aegar was able to establish his credentials, he met again with the Beauxtines to book passage on one of the merchant ships.
The meeting started off well with Aegar exchanging a few jewels for letters of passage through the pirate isles. However, just before he was able to take the letter, a commotion outside startled everyone in the office. A blonde tiefling burst into the room and bounded across the table to put a knife to the throat of the lord. 6 well-armed guards were hot on the tiefling’s trail. They soon had all exits blocked and it looked clear that the tiefling would soon be apprehended. She knew she was cornered but seeing as how she had the lord at knifepoint, she began explaining to the guards that their patron was actually in the pocket of the Shadowmasters- the thieves guild which was the absolute power in Telflamm. She was there to put an end to his reign even if she didn’t escape with her life. The guards all laughed as they were a part of the guild as well and told her they would make sure that she wouldn’t leave alive. They would hunt down everyone who had ever had dealings with her in the city, every merchant who sold her an apple would lose the hand that took her money, every innkeeper who rented her a room would lose an eye, every family member she had would be hunted down. They didn’t get through half of their speech before the blade cut across the throat of their lord.
“I’m sorry, you were in the middle of something and I interrupted. You were saying?”
The 6 guards stared aghast and took weapons out to jump. Suddenly there were two fewer standing as two reptilian hands banged the helms of two guards together, freeing passageway to the window. “Run! I’ll hold them off!” shouted the dragonborn. The tiefling didn’t need to be told twice. She darted for the window and just before jumping out, saw the dragonborn overrun with guards. She cursed and turned around, blasting the guards with crackling beams of energy. Aegar managed to knock out one of the guards holding him as the tiefling took his hand and they jumped through the window into the water over the docks.
It took the pair two days to smuggle themselves out of the city. They were under constant threat of attack by the guild and finally managed to escape by floating up the River Flamm under some refuse. They made their way into the Forest of Lethyr and made a rudimentary camp. Late one night Aegar awoke to a blinding light and heard Wylder speaking to someone within the radiance. He got up quickly but couldn’t see until the light faded. When he was finally able to look around, he was alone.
